With a three-under through five holes, which are low scores, Lahiri failed to take advantage of the situation by letting it slip again when he ended his game with a two-under 70 for the fourth successive time.
Lahiri failed to get his game on with two double bogeys, one on the second day and the other on the final day. He would have finished higher up with his 20 birdies but gave away two doubles and eight bogeys.
His fellow countryman, Arjun Atwal, also tied 50 in the final round finishing with seven-under 281 and T-50 with Daniel Chopra (76) tied 69.
With his first, second, and third birdie split between the first and fifth round, Lahiri had Three pars and a bogey on ninth. As it seemed he had the momentum, he, however, had his second double bogey of the week, which caused a lot of damage despite having three birdies and a bogey in the last four holes.
While the Indian finished with a fourth straight card of 70, Norwegian golfer, Viktor Hovland, emerged winner of the trophy in his 17th event on the PGA Tour.
En route to winning his first PGA TOUR trophy, the Norwegian had a crucial start during the chip-in for eagle on the par-5 15th. He continued with his momentum when he had 30-footer for birdie on the par-5 18th. This gave him a one-stroke victory over Josh Teater.
With this quality performance from Hovland, it’s looking like he will buck a trend that has been on for a while with no winner of Puerto Rico Open having another PGA Tour title in his collection.
Hovland showed his mettle when he recovered from a triple bogey on the par-3 11th. This revived his chance at windy Coco Beach, where he shot a 2-under 70 to finish at 20-under 268 with Teater closing with a 69.
